May 2009 1. With some regret, the society has recently objected to two planning applications. (Our regret is because we are opposing employment and an increase in revenue in Camberley.) The former Magistrates' Court site This is the site on the corner of the High Street and Portesbery Road. A planning application has been submitted for it to be developed, potentially including a fast-food takeaway. We have objected on the grounds of traffic congestion, pedestrian safety and late-night disturbance of nearby residents. The 'Spin' nightclub above the Goose public house This proposed nightclub would be sited diagonally opposite the Magistrates' Court site. The nightclub saga has been running for some while, and the planning application revisits the subject. Our objection was on the basis of 'cumulative impact' - late night 'revellers' already cause too much disruption in adjacent residential areas, and an additional nightclub would inevitably increase the problems.
