Yes, we have failures. Or perhaps they're challenges - or opportunities. And, if the idea of joining a committee doesn't appeal to you, perhaps they're where you can still fit in.... Regular meetings As discussed in our 'Social Activities' page, we do have outings, and we do have two somewhat formal lunches each year. But it's a bit embarrassing when potential new members ask us how often we meet. They usually expect us to hold some sort of gathering every month or so. We don't. Not yet, anyway. What we need is a few members - including new members - to form a group that will arrange regular meetings. Lunchtime, evening, with a drink, with a meal, with a speaker, with a discussion topic... Whatever! The society is a charity with a serious purpose. But if members can get together socially, they'll probably have more fun in tackling the serious work too. Taking initiatives There are lots of relatively small things that could be done to improve Camberley. Some of these - such as keeping the pavements clean - are the council's responsibility. But arranging for the installation of notice boards and flower baskets, providing awards for the best-kept shop front, producing competitions for local children, distributing leaflets about the history of various buildings, and so on, are things that the society could - and should - do. All it takes is a few more people with enthusiasm and a little time to spare. --- If you're interested in tackling these 'failures', do either complete the response form on our 'Join Us!' page or phone David on 01276 21421.
